Lahori fried fish. Which I tried grilling too to make it healthier. Am really considering an air fryer after this because things just don’t turn out as pretty or yummy when you’re baking/ grilling things that need to be fried. Maybe I can borrow an air fryer off a friend to see how it works for me and then decide. The grilled version tasted good too (it was very very mild in comparison to the fried one – the seasoning didn’t stick as much) but the fried one was the real winner here. Why do fried things taste off-the-chart good ? 🥺😋😭 Ingredients: 1 kg tilapia, each fillet cut into 4 pieces. Salt to taste 1 tsp red chilli flakes 1/2 tsp red chilli powder Salt to taste 1/2 tsp turmeric 1 tsp ajwaein (carom seeds) 1 tsp cumin seeds (coarsely ground) 2 tsp coriander seeds (coarsely ground) 5 garlic cloves, minced 2 birds eye green chillies, minced Juice of one big lemon 3 TBS gram flour 1 tsp fenugreek leaves (dried) 1/4 tsp orange food colouring ( optional) Oil for frying/ Spray oil for grilling Method: Mix together gram flour, fenugreek leaves and orange food colour if using. Set aside. Wash and dry the fish. Pat it completely dry with kitchen paper. Mix all the ingredients listed from salt to green chillies in a bowl. Apply lemon juice to the fish. Then rub on the mixed spices. Make sure each piece of fish is coated well. Then add the gram flour mix and do the same. Rub well. Set aside for 30 minutes. Then depending on how you want to cook it, if grilling, spray on some oil and grill in oven for 6 minutes on each side or until done ( please see video) If frying, heat oil until batter dropped into it sizzles and rises to the top. Then add the fish pieces. Do not over crowd your pan. Fry on medium heat, without moving the fish until one side is completely cooked. If you move it before that the batter may come off. Then flip over and cook the other side. Drain on kitchen paper and serve. . . . . . Note: * I kept this a little mild due to our preferences, but you can easily up the spice levels to suit your tastes. * You can of course use an airfryer. If you do, I want pics! * You can marinade for longer if you like.
